My husband is skinny and eats nothing but junk. I always try to have healthy snacks around the house but he will come home with junk food and pig out with the kids. What can I do?-- Name Withheld
Assuming that skinny people are healthy people is like saying smart people are sensible people, it's not always the case. It's a misnomer that skinny people don't have to worry about what they eat because, after all, they're skinny, right? Well, I don't care how skinny someone is, they can still be very unhealthy.
I would suggest that you begin by talking to your husband about his health, as well as the example he's setting for your kids about what to eat. When was the last time your husband had a complete physical? If he's like my husband, he believes you only need a physical if you're on death's doorstep. Encourage him to make a doctor appointment, he might be surprised with the information the doctor provides.
No matter what your size is or the size of your kids or your activity level, it is still so important to eat well and exercise regularly. People believe that once they reach an ideal weight, they no longer need to exercise or eat well, and this is simply not true. If you're looking for good health, exercise and good nutrition must be constant and consistent. Healthy living isn't an "on" or "off" proposition. Talk to your husband about your concerns and hopefully he will see value in your efforts.
