Sole Man: What His Shoes Say

What's the first thing a woman notices on a man?
Some say smile, some say eyes, some say face and some say shoes. That's right: For some women, the first thing they notice is shoes. I'm not going to tell you what's the first thing a man notices on a woman, but I can tell you that shoes fall well outside of the top 10.
There's nothing wrong with where your eyes glance when first encountering the opposite sex, but what do you do with this information when you get it? You make assumptions about the man, his beliefs and his bank account and then decide whether you're going to make contact.
Every men's magazine I've ever read extols the virtue of slickly shined shoes on a first date: "Women notice shoes." But do women really know what a certain shoe says about a man or what to say to that man after scoping his slides?Well, it's your lucky day because as a man, I have access to the secret code of the male mind. I know what his shoes portray, and what information you can glean from glancing at his feet. It's as simple as following these keys to kicks and following up with the right steps.
Polished Penny Loafers
He's old school, uptight and wants to look respectable. Comfort is not as important as professionalism. If there is a penny in said loafers, he's older than 60.
Making contact: Open with a comment about the weather and then talk about how kids today have no respect for a finely crafted loafer.
Well-Worn Tennis Shoes
This guy is either athletic and laidback or sloppy and lazy. Either way, he's comfortable in his skin and sporting new Nikes is his idea of dressing to impress.
Making contact: If he's unkempt and portly, mention how society puts too much emphasis on superficial things and ask him to go out for coffee. If he's obviously fit, challenge him to something --- anything. Sporty dudes can never turn down a challenge of any kind.
Converse All-Stars
He's laid-back, cool and casual yet complicated, stylish and intelligent. He's also quite handsome, as well as macho yet sensitive. He is the man of your dreams. [Editor's note: Shawn wears these. He also probably has no idea what he's talking about.]
Making contact: Smile at him and give him that "come hither" stare. He's perceptive -- he'll pick it up.

Lame attempt at hooking up with your readers. You suck!

This article sucks. What does this have to do with diet and fitness? I have serious doubts as to reading anything else on this website considering they would "ok" such crap to go ahead and be on their website as an article. If this guy is getting paid for this then...wow...I should be writing for them, anuyone should be writing for them, if it's that easy to get paid for writing crap.

Add flip-flops; men wearing these are;
a) Teenager trying to pose as surfer-dude
b) Above 40 years, posing as teenager posing as surfer-dude

It was cute... probably not an attempt at all, rather a joke. A guy with enough guts to throw that out there has to be very confident!

Wasnt THAT bad of an article...give the guy a break! But you should have put a lil more effort into other types of shoes...I was interested in reading this, but it wasnt all the informative.

Wow! People can be so petty! The article was obviously meant to be light-hearted and whimsical. Your panties are in a bunch because this wasn't serious enough for you? This site doesn't need such uptight people like you on here anyway. Loosen up! Geez!

I found this article entertaining and accurate. It doesnt have anything to do with fitness but why does it have to? And if someone thinks they can write better and not "crap" they need to watch for their type-o's first. "anuyone"

fun article, nothing to do with dieting. Yah! Who wants to focus on dieting all the time. You forgot work boots. Strong work ethics...?

One of my biggest pet peeves is blue jeans with big white tennis shoes - men who do not work out should not wear tennis shoes.

Time to get a life guys! Clearly, this is a spoof - lighten up!

I thought this was cute. Some comments above are very rude. Sometimes it's nice to read about something other than diet and fitness. If you have half a brain and been on this website longer than a week, you will receive more than enough info on your dieting and fitness wonders.

I thought this blog was fun and light-hearted. Clearly, the man can write and as other posters have mentioned, sometimes you just get tired of reading diet and fitness articles all the time.
So, stop being so serious. It's a long weekend, and there's no need to be so uptight. Kudos to Shawn McKee, a god among men.

Well, it must have been a good 'come-on' because I normally DON'T go into these sites and being a single woman over 40 I was qute interested in exactly just what a man's shoe reflects about that particular man...(when you mntioned 'shoe size'...that REALLY peaked my interest!! LOL!) I very much enjoyed the article and and the editor's note; which actually made me wonder what this guy looked like in his Converse All-Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked this article! Thanks for the enlightenment! I read with interest the part on the Converse All-Stars, the original Chuck Taylors! Because my husband wears them, and has for the 27 years we have been together! You are soo funny! It's great to have something different to laugh and think about, and I thank you for the smiles! Have a great 4th of July weekend....

The part about the worn sneakers being for someone lazy and a slob vs. athletic struck home. Usually I am in the latter category, but when I start wearing sweats and sneakers for months on end in the winter, I start to wonder if I am heading towards the other end. ;) Anyway, I try to defend wearing athletic wear somewhat often as being part of an athletic, confident lifestlye.
