eDiets Video Producer (and resident wine snob)
No Salt? ...OKNo saturated fats? ...OK
No wine? No way! I can't get loose without my juice.
Last month I had a chance to do some filming with Jillian Michaels at eDiets Live in Fort Lauderdale, and she made my day. We were talking after the event and she said at my weight, I could have "a bottle per week... good stuff only." (Of course, I agreed! Life is too short to waste on cheap wine.)
So that means I can actually diet, stay healthy and still have my Pinot. Whew.
Wine is allowed with plans like the Mediterranean Diet, which is promoted as a healthy lifestyle for food and wine lovers.
As our nutritionists put it, "A glass of wine is roughly 4 to 5 ounces, which amounts to approximately 100 calories (how's that for a 100-calorie snack?!). If you are a strict dieter, you should restrict it to 2 glasses a week. Those extra calories shouldn't sabotage your diet."
Watch this video to see how Jillian tells a woman (who flat-out refuses to give up her wine at night) how she can still get rid of her "belly blubber."
So how about you? Would you be willing to give up your daily wine? Have you tried the Mediterranean Diet? Share your thoughts!

I really enjoyed the video by Jillian. I thought her information on how the body processes alcohol was very informative. Giving us a guideline of having a glass of red wine, in moderation, a couple of time of week was helpful.

As your favorite dietitian, red wine, in moderation, is rich in antioxidants and some studies show it has a beneficial role in preventing heart disease. So spread that bottle throughout the week and you should be fine - and enjoy! Don't forget to add your favorite fresh fruits and veggies, lean proteins and whole grains to the meal! The wine doesn't want to be alone - enjoy it with a delicious meal!

What happened to the video? It seems to be missing. Sounds like it would be interesting. Anyway, I haven't tried the Mediterranean diet exactly, but I like to include wine into my daily calorie calculation. It IS good for you in moderation. Only good wine, of course.

I have found that I can give up the ice cream without feeling deprived but that glass of wine just makes me feel like I can enjoy the good things in life and still make progress towards my weight loss goals. The Mediterranean diet works for me.

It was the comments about the wine that initially caught my attention, but it was her quip about processed foods that I think I'll really remember: "If it doesn't have a mother and doesn't grow from the ground..." What an easy-to-remember quote to take to the grocery store!!

I'm so glad to see this and I am definitely not alone. LOL. I think the wine has been a downfall in my regular diet. I'll have to take a closer look at the mediteranian.

I had two glasses last night and was feeling guilty. Hey, I can have more this week! I know, I know MODERATION, but this was truly what I needed to hear. I can give up chocolate, bread, white sugar, etc. but wine was my true true "thing" that I wanted to keep having. Now I will really give those other things up and stop beating myself up when I need a glass of Meritage. Mmmm makes me want one now. Thanks for this informative blog!
