Who's Fit to be President?

As Election Day draws closer, the question on the minds of most Americans is: Which candidate would make the best fit as the next president of the U.S.? But here at eDiets, we are more concerned with finding out who's fit to be president… Or, to put it another way, finding out which of the candidates would make the most physically-fit president.

Savvy voters are -- and should be -- concerned with the total package. Since we're not exactly qualified to rate the candidates on their political records, we'll stick to what we know best: fitness and health. Does it really matter if the person in the White House eats healthy and works out? I mean, as long as he or she is a good leader, so what if our next President likes to eat junk food and lie around on the couch all day?

There's no question about the fact that the president of the U.S. is a role model. With our great nation in the grips of an obesity crisis, we at eDiets think the ideal candidate should be someone who will lead by example!

Though he didn't get his party's nomination, Mike Huckabee is a former Baptist minister, who also likes to preach the gospel of healthy living. You may not know this about him, but the former Arkansas governor dropped 105 pounds a few years back. He also launched an intriguing initiative in his home state to fight obesity and reward those residents who get in shape and stay that way.

"I needed to lead by matter of example and I had a huge obesity problem. I was letting down my own personal faith," Huckabee tells eDiets. "I felt I was not being good toward my own body by not taking care of me."

Whoever moves to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue next year will have some big running shoes to fill! Our current president has made exercise a regular part of his life. When a knee injury sidelined the commander-in-chief from his beloved running regimen, George W. Bush found other ways to keep fit.

"I exercise nearly every day and I feel better for it," President Bush tells eDiets. "It helps me deal with the demands of being the president and commander-in-chief. In the past, I liked to get in a good run. However, because of knee problems I have turned to lower-impact exercises, like the elliptical trainer and lifting free weights. Recently, I have taken up mountain biking."

We'd like to know who you think would make the most physically-fit president.

Hillary Clinton?

Barack Obama?

John McCain?

None of the above?! Well, unlike at the polls, you can still cast your vote for the candidates who didn't get their parties nomination… or, write in your own. You don't even need a voting booth.

Just post your vote here!

I am still uncertain as to who I plan to vote for. I am iffy in regarsd to Hilary & I know I have some serious questions about Obama. For some reason he seems phony to me. I know a lot of my friends would rather vote for Micky Mouse than the group we have right now.
Some are ready for Hilary and some not. Some feel that if Obama takes over it will be hell to pay. McCain may be the way to go. But I still have a lot of questions.
I am not impressed with Patrick Deval. He is not responsible. I think something may happen where he doesn't make it to term.
He is not for the people, more for himself.

I am not the only one that feels this way. Some people are waiting to vote at the end. God Bless us all.

Barack Obama is most definitely the most fit to be President. He has age and weight on his side. He certainly looks healthy and physically fit.

McCain looks ill - No Hilary-didn't know she was such a nasty person. Barack speaks and presents well, but I just don't know.......I think Mitt Romney - he comes from an HONEST family, good upbringing, believes in God, and appears to be morally sound as well as intelligent. @nd choice would be Huckabee

Obama for sure! His energy is as strong and fresh as it was when he first started his campaign. I'm sure his stopping cigarettes helped.

McCain - Just look at his 95 year old mother. And he is the only one with traditional values and cares about everyone in the country - not just one fringe group over another....looking to make everyman stronger, not take from the working people to enable the folks who refuse to educate themselves and work. I am so sick of the entitlements - and hypocracy of those darn progressives and elites.

Actually, none of the above. However, I will vote because I feel like if you don't vote, then you have no room to complain about any thing. Not that the vote today matters. I'm sure "those in power" have already chose our new president. SAD, SAD, SAD... Will Americans wake up before it's too late and take back our government, or is it already too late?

Hillary Clinton is propably the most fit because Barack smokes and John McCain because of his age. However, I think John McCain will make the best President.

I am not sure who is the more fit president. By the looks of it, it appears that Obama is, but I can't really tell.
I will say that I feel that Obama is the best choice for President because of his judgment.
Think about the fact that this man is a Harvard Graduate that choice to work as a community organizer. As a current law student, I know that my mounting debt will force me to find the highest paying job possible, but Obama was more motivated by moving the people that by making the "paper." I think that says a lot about his character.
Also, he was a constitutional law teacher. Think how nice it would be to have a President who actually knows, believes and understands the constitution. I know that I would be extremely happy to have someone that has a definite interest in respecting and protecting our God-given rights as human beings and not trying to use our fears to force us into submission.
Finally, I am sure that we all would agree that the war in Iraq was a mistake. Of all the presidential candidates, he was the ONLY one to oppose the war from the start. Clinton can talk about accountability, but realistically Obama was in the middle of a campaign when he publicly opposed the war. He was well aware that by stepping up and disagreeing with the majority of both parties, his decisions could cost him his candidacy, but he had the courage to speak his mind.
Finally, for all the Democrats considering Hillary take a deeper look at her "experience."
First off, she touts her plan for heathcare, but when President Clinton was in office, he gave her the budget to handle our national health care system and she accomplished nothing! If she was so effective, then why would she not have gotten universal health care when her husband was in the White House.
Also, she is promising over 1 million jobs for Americans, but she could not even get the 200,000 jobs that she promised the people of New York as Senator. When asked, her response was that she thought Al Gore would be president. Clearly, from the above statement, she is incapable of handling things even when her husband is president, so it does not matter who is in the White House, Hillary Clinton has shown that her experience makes her less capable.
Finally, when I was weighing whether to vote for Hillary or Barack, I just decided to wait and watch how the candidates run their campaigns. Hillary has done nothing but try to drag his name in the mud. She consistently goes back on her word: Look at FL and MI where they all agreed that the delegates would not be seated without a whimper or complaint, but now that she is losing big, she is doing whatever she can to make sure that those votes are counted. Her campaign has made numerous racist and devise comments. And if you watched the last debate that she, all but begged for, she was brutish and volatile. She refused to answer a hypothetical question about how she would handle an Iraq crisis, she tried to bully the commentators into letting her talk through a commercial, and she lied about producing the documents about her tax returns. When will we see those Hillary? What do you really have to hide.
Finally, remember that President Clinton pardoned hundreds of criminals just before he left office. Are those people your backers?
Pay attention. I realize that Barack is new and fresh and that bothered me because I didn't know if I could trust him. But I also know that with his judgment and values, and the backing and support of a well-picked cabinet, he will have hundreds of years of experience helping him to run our great nation. We need a real change.

Obama .. I'm not sure why, but I believe Mr. Obama is most fit. I like his great intellect, knowledge, and wisdom; seems honest, gives hope with fresh ideas, the peace he radiates as he speaks, his listening & reasoning abilities and I hope a wonderful family man/example to our nation.

The one that worries me the most is John McCain. He wants to continue the war and get us into more. He wants to defeat Roe vs. Wade. He seems to be Bush in a different form, and we certainly can't afford any more of Bush.

Obama, all the way - with his obviously even disposition, he will be able to handle the stress of the job. He has youth and great intelligence on his side, as well as a stable, supportive relationship with his family. He's a winner!

Definitely not Hillary, she's showing her true colors and attitude. Shame on her.

Obama appears to be fit, but what about the fact that he just stopped chain smoking only when he began his run for the Presidency?
Wonder what his lungs look like? Also what about the judgement of a parent who was exposing his young children to second-hand smoke for most of their lives?

I think the best to run the world, generally
speaking is A WOMAN! Due 2Clintons credentials
i.e.experience in the white house, smart, savvy, smart,
witty, and she has shown thru it all A LOT OF COURAGE TO STAND BY HER ideas, and to ALL
THOSE MAN in power. IT HAS A LOT TO SAY!
I am woman, a foreigner in this country, NOT A RACIST AT ALL!! Wanna make that clear, but, I think
the rest of the world and other goverments ARE NOt
ready TO DEAL with an Afro-American candidate.
Will cause a LOT OF CONFLICTS when dealing International affairs with the USA & Obama in power.

Either Hilary or McCain.

well, McCain is a lot like Bush except scarier! that guy has a temper that he often acts on. There are quite a few Republicans and military leaders who are nervous about a McCain presidency. Christian?? No one that throws in with Bush could be considered a christian in my book. Obama, Clinton, either one is fine by me.

Personally after watching all the candidates and really understanding their voting records and the stand on many issues, I feel John McCain would be the best to lead the country.

John McCain has the stamina and is passionate. He knows when he's wrong and he understands that the American people are frustrated on every level.

People are being very misled by the Democrats. As an independent, I don't have a tie-in to either party-I prefer to vote who I feel long term will be the best for the country. If you want to keep America from becoming a third world country, you will think with your head and leave emotion out of it oh cool aid drinkers!

As the article says, not best president, just fittest.

Barack smoked, but he does play basketball.

Hillary doesn't smoke, don't know her eating habits and has admitted she could use more exercise, but she's not overweight.

McCain is older but has survived his POW trauma admirably and grown from it.

However, I'd have to say Kucinich, he has talked publicly about his eating and fitness (he's vegan).

i vote for Hillary she may get a bit sarcastic but obama isn't so sweet-tongued either at times. its all in the game.. I think it is such a grueling experience to be constantly in the public eye, I admire the way Hillary stands up to the hassle..I cant see obama greeting heads of state . I see them thinking"is this the best they could do?"

I wish Obama had waited until he has been around longer. He is exactly what the future needs. Hillary is an excellent way to break the barrier. This is a really tough time for the USA to break away from the horrors of the last 8 years but it's too soon to break away to where Obama wants to take us. IF he wins, it will be a waste ----- HE is who the Republicans want to be candidate because it's too soon for him to be effective.

Hillary is the most experinced and
if you vote her in you get Bill too.
Two presidents for one is awesome.
McCain has similiar views as George W. We do need change from that family.

The most fit is Huckabee. He's fit body, mind, and spirit. He's against killing babies and homosexual marriages. He has lead well in the fitness program in AK. He is genuine and really cares about out country.

Comment: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 8:46:00 AM - Anonymous Anonymous said...

I would say that the most fit would be H.Clinton. B.Obama is not fit to be president, no respect for the flag & not wiiling to to admit his hertiage. Set in his church and his pastor using profane language in the church.
That is a disgrace to the church as a whole; that pastor should be ashame of himself. This would not set good with me or the nation as a whole. Pastors suppose to be men that loves all races and especially God. Right now I do not know who I would vote for. May God help us to make the right decision. We need God back in our country.

Macain is by far the best choice for president. The thoughts of Obama being president with his past and his lack of common sense is terrifing. No respect for our flag, how he has come so far is beyond comprehension. You are also known by the company you keep. The pastor that he has had for 20 years says it all. God help us. If Obama is our leader we are doomed.

Age doesn't matter so Obama is out. Hillary is tired. I think McCain out of the three. He has proven that he can withstand extreme conditions as a POW. His stamina still shows. It takes more than a good body to be physically fit!

I think Hillary Clinton is the best person for the job. Obama has promised change, but have'nt other presidents say the same and no change? Macain loves war and hates inmigrants. NO, NO, NO, Hilary is the best candidate for presidency.

Hillary Clinton ROCKS!!!

Hillary Clinton is healthy physically, mentally, and intellectually. She can turn this in-debt, in-war country around. Neither of the other candidates even comes near her capabilties.
Obama (scary pastor that he believes in - what else does he believe in and what kind of change? I don't trust him.) and McCain (scary warmonger) are both looking ill.

Obama-Physically and morally speaking!
Hillary is vicious and unethical but possibliy in physical shape by attempting to keep onto Bill.

Where was Obama's much touted good judgment when he was a chain smoker? (up to four packs a day?) That's a hard habit to break;do we know that he has succeeded? He seems the least tranparent of the candidates.
My vote goes to Hillary Clinton!!

If we're speaking in a strictly physical sense, as many of the commentors seem to have forgotten, I think Obama is likely in the best shape.

Would I vote for him? I'm not sure.

Hillary Clinton has the quality that We all need for this country.Me and My family been watching Barack Obama for a longtime and finally made up our mind today that He cann't run the country. He cann't take the heat,His campaign been running on denial about His Pastor Right and the others. His Pastor was and is a father figure to Him and He will continuesly take advise from Him no matter what the American people said.Thats the main concern that Me and My family have. Our prayer and hopes that the American people wake-up before is too late.May God bless America. Please pray for our Country.
