I'm sure you know someone who has tried one. They promise to flush the poisons from your body, purge pounds of fat, clear your complexion and bolster your immune system. Celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, and Beyonce Knowles attribute great weight losses to diets like the Fruit Flush and Master Cleanse. However, studies show detox diets do nothing but cause unpleasant and unhealthy side effects. Fasting leads to muscle breakdown and a shortage of many needed nutrients depriving the body of vitamins and minerals we get from food and can actually weaken the body's ability to fight infections and inflammation. I guess it's true what we nutritionists say... a balanced healthy diet and plenty of good old exercise is the best way to lose excess fat and maintain a healthy weight.

I've recently tried Detox diet (maple syrup, lemon, etc.) & yes I lost weight but was also very exhausted and smelly. It didn't feel healthy 2 me and besides gained every lb back & then some. Very unrealistic - why bother.

I don't believe in diets such as this. If you eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water I believe the body will detox itself.
