This is not a new "game" as you call it. In the late seventies I worked at a grade school in California, as a teachers aide. One girl was brought into the nurses office unconcious. Her friend had done this pressing on the neck. The nurse said it was a thing a lot of the kids were doing as they think it is funny. It took some time to bring this 5th grade girl around. I was ordered not to breath a word of this to anyone as the powers that be did not want the parents suing the school. I moved away shortly after that so I do not know what happened from then on. I just wanted you and all parents to know it is not new.Every parent should talk about it openly with their kids just like you would about not smoking and not doing drugs and alcohol.

This is not a "new" fad, I'm 42 years old and ashaimed but thankful to still be here to tell you I played the choking game when I was a teen! I must say thow I thought the fad faded years ago, and I'm glad when I was doing it I never herd of anyone dieing, but of course we didn't have this vast information highway! I now have a teenager and I'm thankful for all the information out there. I've talk to her about it and Pray she herd me! Interesting and personal thought, I contiued to chace that uthoric high over the years and what I ended up with was the realization that I was and alcoholic! Trust me Kids THE HIGH AINT WORTH THE LOW!!!! There is hope, don't pick up the rope and choke! Keep your brain cell in tack you'll need them for when your older and have to deal with your teenagers!!LOL!!
4 years sobber and taking it a day at a time!!

I just read this article and had never heard of this "game" before, so I talked to my 9 & 12 year-old girls about it. My 12 year-old said that the school counselor had already talked to her class about it recently. Every school should let the students know about things like this & the "temporary tattoo drug" from a few years ago, etc, when they learn about it. Education is the best prevention!!!

This is an ididic game. I am a teen and I haven't encontered it yet but who would be so stupid to participate in this game. I can't even believe this is an issue especaly in honors students.

I played this game a couple of times my junior year. That was 1993-94. We did it in a class. I believed it was the sleeper hold? I never reliezed it could of been dangerous. I stayed away from drugs & smoking. I now have a 9 year old. I'll know to tell him not to do it.

It's quite a coincidence that I came across this article because me and my other half were just talking about this the other day. We both did it for the euphoric 10 second high, and even though we knew it killed brain cells, we figured we had enough to go around. I also thought that this fad had died out a long time ago, and didn't realize that it was so old. I have an 11 yr old and an 8 yr old, and nothing scares me more than to lose them to such a seemingly innocent game. Could this be considered a gateway to bigger 'highs'? I'm beginning to think so as this was my first experience, but not my last.

After reading this article I was going to find out who I should contact to say this is definitely not a new trick or "game". Although I'm only 27, I played this "game" when I was just in middle school. We would bend over and breath deep, just like the male in the video, and someone would then push deeply on our chest, causing us to pass out. I only did it once, but that was enough. I felt like I was dreaming for days, but I was only out for less than a minute. It wasn't a scary experience at all, but fortunately I only did it once. Children who look for things to change their mental awareness or status are obviously searching for something else in their lives'. It's a sad truth but something has to be done before children reach the age this "game" can be accomplished. It's a fast world; mind's are always curious... keep your children interested in the natural highs. I'm not preaching, I have a three year old and I'm scared just like any other parent should be. All I can do is my best.

I have played this game before. I was 12 and my cousin told me about it and we tried it. The rush they talk about really does feel cool... for 2 or 3 sec. It's not worth the possibilities of serious damage to your body. Don't do it, you'll seriously regret it.

This is not a new game. In 1990 a classmate of my younger sister was found hung in their closet. His mother was later told that him and his friend had been playing a game they seen in a magazine. This is a serious issue and am surprised people don't know about it.

No, this "game" is not new. My sisters and I called it the "pass-out" game. We would take 10 deep breaths and then someone would hold us really tight so that we couldn't breathe. Once my dad actually did this with me, and I swear I saw my life passing before me in a matter of seconds. My dad said that I seemed be have a convulsion. I was probably close to death that day. I have already told my kids about this.

I swear women are their own worst enemies. If you're not coveting each other, you're listening to the media or that idiot voice in your head as to how to define how you should look, think, and/or live. I pray for the day when women(and men) recognize your own self worth and value, and stop allowing yourself to be manipulated regarding who you really are. Jumping back and forth from all these extremes as to who you should be or who you should be with and live, is probably why so many of you are dropping dead of stress induced illnesses. It's ironic that I write this on Easter, or as many Christians know it Resurrection Day. I pray for a resurrection of commonsense and a progression toward self value for every woman and girl; or as Jesus Christ would put it: "love your neighbor, AS YOURSELF!"

I do admit that I to did this when I was younger. I am 35 years old and remember doing it in the 8th grade. It is not exclusive to big cities either I was in a very small town in Texas. Luckily I never knew anyone that suffered ill effects but through education I have learned through the years now realize how truely dangerous it really is. It is not worth the momentary thrill that really only lasts a second. A split second of oxygen deprivation can lead to a lifetime of problems if something were to go wrong. Not to mention the possiblity of it being deadly.

I am only nineteen, not far removed from grade schools and we played the choking game up until seventh or eighth grade -- so its a continual thing

Who would want to play a game like that??? That is just dumb, knocking each other out and then laughing about it!!! I mean you only get "high" as they say for like one second then you get all those side effects!! That is a stupid way to risk your life!!
